What is a text alternative?
We use text alternatives to support people with certain disabilities who will not be able to perceive information communicated through non-text content without an alternative, and users of assistive technology (such as screen readers).
Text alternatives include embedded alternative text (alt text) and, when necessary (such as in the case of complex images) a separate section or page containing a detailed text description that serves the equivalent purpose as the original image. Alt text is a commonly used text substitute for non-text content in digital and web-based documents.
